SECT

Sect is a foundational concept in Traditional astrology that distinguishes between day charts and night charts. A chart is considered a day chart (diurnal) if the Sun is above the horizon (in houses 7 through 12), and a night chart (nocturnal) if the Sun is below the horizon (in houses 1 through 6).

This distinction influences how certain planets function in the chart, as well as which planetary dignities—such as triplicity rulers—are activated. Some planets are considered more favorable or comfortable in charts of their sect, and sect can also affect how benefic and malefic influences are interpreted.

Recognizing whether a chart is diurnal or nocturnal adds depth to interpretation and is especially relevant when using Traditional techniques like triplicity rulership and planetary condition.
